About Safe Image Search
There are a few websites that provide relatively safe images using custom search tools. Many of these sites however, are not guaranteed to be safe for kids. We have partnered with ‘Kidz Search’ to provide safe images from a variety of educational websites with strict filtering.
Using our search tool, all images are screened to ensure only appropriate images appear for kids. The nature of the websites are also filtered to prevent children from landing on a site that may contain harmful material, even if it is unrelated to the original image search.
The overall content of the website is an important consideration when pulling safe images into search results.
For example, a website may feature a picture of a dog. The image may be labelled properly as dog.png. When a child searches for dog, the image appears and they click through to see the larger image on the website hosting the image.
If that website is not concerned with child safety, it may be featuring inappropriate ads or content and other images that are not suitable for kids.
Another issue with searching for images is that unsafe pictures on websites may be labeled in a way that does not disclose the full nature of the image. An image may be labeled backyard-dog.png, but it turns out to be a picture of a backyard party scene with alcohol that just happens to have a dog playing in it. Our safe image search tool filters the image title and we work diligently to ensure the website content hosting the image is safe for kids. This includes featuring images from many educational websites.
Safe image search is just one component when providing safe search tools in school and at home. We also provide regular Google search results with strict filtering, as well as safe video search, safe online games and Wikipedia for Kids.
